The Gospel
The word gospel simply means “good news.” Christianity begins not with advice about what we must do, but with news about what God has done.
The gospel is the message that God created us for relationship with Him, but we have all turned away from Him through sin, choosing our own way instead of His. This separation affects every part of our lives and ultimately leads to spiritual death (Romans 3:23; 6:23).
Out of love, God did not leave us there. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, entered the world, lived the life we could not live, and died the death we deserved. On the cross, Jesus took the penalty for our sin. Three days later, He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death once and for all (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
The gospel is good news because salvation is a gift, not something we earn. We are forgiven, restored, and welcomed into God’s family by grace through faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9).
This good news doesn’t just change where we go when we die, it changes how we live now. Through Jesus, we are offered forgiveness, new life, purpose, and hope.
Prayer
“God, I believe you created the world out of love and it was good. I have turned away from you and I am a sinner. I am not able to reconcile with you, free myself from sin and death, or work my way into your favor. I believe that out of love you sent your son Jesus to live a perfect life I couldn’t. I believe that Jesus died to pay for my sin on the cross and rose again to defeat death. I surrender my life to you and I trust you alone to forgive my sins and give me a new heart. I choose today to follow you and spend the rest of my life for your glory. I look forward to life eternal with you, my God. Amen”
