  • Story Church Family,

Over the past six years, God has done incredible work in and through our church. From living rooms to back yards to a rented church. We went from a dream to a gospel movement. We’ve witnessed lives transformed, families strengthened, and Jesus lifted high. Every step of the way, your faith, sacrifice, and generosity have fueled the mission. We are living in our prayers.

Now, we stand at the edge of something greater. Something that will require Spirit-led courage from all of us.

As we look to the future, we believe God is calling us to expand our reach and deepen our impact. The need is real: our space is limited, our ministries are growing, and our city is hungry for hope.

To meet this moment, we are launching a generosity initiative called GREATER: Giving for the Glory of God.

Our goal is to raise an additional $500,000 toward moving to a new space to better serve our people, reach our community, and glorify Christ. We are asking every person who calls Story Church home to seek the Lord and consider how He is leading you to give.

This is about more than dollars. It’s about discipleship. It’s about worship. It’s about saying, “Jesus, You are worth more.”

Let’s trust Him for something GREATER.

    With love and gratitude,

WHY NOW?

THE NEED BEFORE US

Growing Attendance: Our church is growing, especially among families with children. Our space is no longer adequate to serve everyone well. And our lease is not being renewed, so we have to make a move.

Community Engagement: We want to be a beacon of hope in our city and we need a facility that reflects that vision and our church DNA.

Limited Ministry Capacity: Children’s ministry, discipleship classes, and outreach events are constrained by space, both by sharing with another church and by physical space available.

Future Opportunities: We believe this best positions us to reach more people who will be baptized and live for Christ the King in all of life for all of life.

Staying Power: God has called us to be a church in this place and at this time. This move gives us staying power to endure for the long haul.

This move is not about convenience or continuity.

It’s about GREATER capacity for our mission of taking

Rancho for Jesus

VISION FOR THE FUTURE

THROUGH YOUR GENEROSITY, WE WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • SECURE A LONG TERM, SPACIOUS FACILITY

  • INCREASE OUR ABILITY TO HOST OUTREACH EVENTS, CLASSES, AND COUNSELING AND CARE MINISTRIES.

  • CREATE ROOM FOR MORE PEOPLE TO ENCOUNTER THE GOSPEL.

  • EXPAND OUR CHILDREN’S AND YOUTH MINISTRY ENVIRONMENTS.

THIS ISN’T JUST A BUILDING PROJECT.
THIS IS A MINISTRY MULTIPLIER.

STORIES OF GOSPEL IMPACT

CHARIS & ANTHONY ABREU

Since attending Story, God has taught us what it means to live as members of the church and shown us the value of serving the body of Christ. Through service, we have been able to experience the joy of fellow believers and God’s faithfulness through their encouragement. Through serving in Story Students, in home groups, on Dream Team, and Production Team, Story has helped us develop a unified vision of our family’s role in the church. We love what God is doing through our church and are greatful to be  part of it!

BEN & HEATHER JONES

We have had the privilege of being a part of the Story Church family since the beginning. Ask anyone who has been going to Story for a while and they will tell you that one of the things they love the most about our church is the community. And we couldn’t agree more!

Because of serving as Home Group leaders, in kids ministry, and on the security team we have been blessed with the love of a church family. Through the families in this church we’ve been able to witness the miraculous ways in which God provides in the highs of life and walk alongside our friends, from infertility and miscarriages to broken relationships and health struggles. All the while pointing each other to keep our eyes on Christ.

We would not found this without being obedient to Gods command to serve others. In John 14:15 the Bible says that we show our love for Jesus by obeying Him in all things. And sometimes that obedience may seem inconvenient or take you out of your comfort zone but we can promise you that there is so much joy to be found in loving others more than yourself.

AMANDA LUCAS

I came to Story two years ago from a Mainline denomination, and since then God has given me a firm foundation in a chaotic world and the means to build my identity around Him. Before, I had fallen into a pattern of trusting in myself and only calling out to God in distress, which left me spiritually stagnant and double-minded, but now I have seen the fruits of the Spirit increasing in me as I become more of the person God made me to be.

I think of this season as a “renewing of the years the locusts have eaten” from Joel, and I feel blessed to have found a family at Story that encourages one another in godliness and bears each other’s burdens. Much of this growth comes from leaning into the relational side of following Jesus, not just rules, and becoming a church member for the first time as a commitment to God’s people.

This summer’s Seek Week, where we read the New Testament aloud over seven evenings, answered my prayers for a bold step of faith and new opportunities to serve; attending every hour and reading aloud gave me a clearer vision of God’s redemptive story, a deeper unity with the church, and even revealed areas where I need to grow or realign my heart. Day by day, I am learning to see God’s love as truly good and trustworthy, which frees me from hiding and helps me become more vulnerable in prayer and in community, and although I often wrestle with feelings of failure, this Easter I realized a freeing truth—I am a failure and always will be, but that’s okay because Jesus Christ never fails.

GOD OWNS IT ALL

Everything we have belongs to God and has been entrusted to us to steward. When we decide what to do with our treasures, we’re deciding how to steward God’s stuff, not our own.

Psalm 24:1 - The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.

STORE UP TREASURES IN HEAVEN

This world and everything in it will pass away. Our primary investments shouldn’t be in our bank accounts or in the stuff we can accumulate, but in the eternal work of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Matthew 6:19–21 - “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

BE RICH IN GOOD WORKS

True wealth is not found in money, but in God, so we generously give knowing that God will use our money for eternal good.

1 Timothy 6:18–19 - [The rich] are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

Jesus Became Poor So We Might Become Rich

Jesus gave up his endless riches in heaven in order that we might have the fulness of God in us. He selflessly gave up everything so that his people might live.

2 Corinthians 8:9 - For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

WE TRUST GOD, NOT MONEY

Generosity and stewardship are the natural response to God’s amazing generosity in our lives and our trust in Him to provide for us.

1 Timothy 6:17 - As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

90 > 100

Stewardship is a chosen lifestyle where we give something, give it consistently and grow in our generosity.

2 Corinthians 9:7-8 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

INVEST IN ETERNITY

When we give, we partner with the eternal work that God is doing here and around the world.

2 Corinthians 4:18 - As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

OUR HEART POSTURE

THE GREATER COMMITMENT

We are asking every household to:

  1. PRAY: Ask God to lead you in your giving.

  2. PLAN: Consider what sacrificial generosity looks like for your family. If your giving is not a regular part of your budget, make it regular and planned. Consider 10% of your income rather than a fluctuating amount.

  3. PROGRESSIVE: Over time increase your percent and amount. For this project, consider a one-time, above and beyond gift to accelerate the mission.

  4. PARTICIPATE: We’re asking everyone to fill out a GREATER commitment card so that together we can team lift this need before us. If we all participate we can all celebrate. Use this card to state your intention to increase your giving over and above your current level. We are trusting God for an additional $500,000 over the next 12 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. This is about mission. The location is a tool to advance the gospel. The church is not a building, but both the New Testament and church history show us that a church building is a tool God uses to make His mission last in a place.

  • God doesn’t measure by amount, but by heart. Every gift matters as long as it is from obedience. Each of us has a greater need to give than the church has a need for the money. So consider what God is prompting you to give and prayerfully follow through, without worrying about how much it might be compared to anything else.

  • We have been paying under market for 6 years now. In addition, the current market rates are very high due to being in Southern California and 6 years straight of inflation. This means our current rent is going to triple.

  • YES! We can easily afford this if everyone at Story Church will take a step in generosity. For example if everyone just gave an additional $150 per month the increased rent expense would be covered. We know that some can give more and some less, but if you’re new to this, maybe start here.

  • Yes. Contact our team for more information on creative giving strategies - scott@story.church

  • We will have 24/7, 365 oversight and access to the location. Any ‘sharing’ would come entirely based upon the discretion and decision of the elders.
